Elk Island Child & Youth Ranch has spaces for 10 Clients in intensive Treatment and 3 in Semi Independent Living (SIL). We do not take more than 8 clients in order to allow for flexibility from home to home and arrive at the best possible services based on the youth’s needs.
We currently have three settings. We offer intensive treatment to both male and female clients. We don’t plan co-ed living however when the mix of clients allows for low risk we have mixed them. Placement requirement for females is much lower and we’ve traditionally only placed them in our Ranch 3 facility which is a four bed home. Before combining genders there would be a thorough discussion with our treatment team as well as with the Authority. There are no significant program differences for our male or female clients. Differences would/could include recreational preferences (i.e. skateboard park versus swimming). As with all of our clients preferences and interests are considered.
Our Intensive Treatment Program treats youth covered under the Child, Youth Enhancement Act beginning at age 10. Exceptions to the minimum age range can be arranged on a case to case basis and is at the Treatment Team’s discretion.
